Our call volume increases every year. 2023 was a record-breaking year for the Blacksburg Volunteer Rescue Squad. Our volunteers answered a record-high 3,748 emergency calls. We donated 89,492 hours of service, almost 10,000 more than in 2022.
As our community grows, so does the need for emergency assistance. Without your generous donations and support, we would not be able to provide the level of service we do now.

The rescue squad has two funds set up through the Community Foundation of the NRV to support members and for long-term support of squad operations.
Blacksburg Volunteer Rescue Squad Memorial Scholarship Fund
This fund was created in 2014 in memory of Blacksburg Volunteer Rescue Squad members who have passed away while serving their communities, including Kristin L. Ekey. It provides scholarships to students pursuing a career as a Paramedic, Registered Nurse, Physician's Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner to attend any two- or four-year college or university. Eligible applicants should be active members of the Blacksburg Volunteer Rescue Squad in good standing with a minimum of one (1) year of service at the time of application and have academic performance sufficient to earn and maintain enrollment at a post-secondary school.
When completing the form, be sure to include “Blacksburg Rescue Memorial Scholarship” when it asks you to "To direct your donation to a specific fund."
